Notes
* Gigablast
Founded by New Mexico Tech graduate Matt Wells, Gigablast was born in 2000 and today indexes more than 200 billion pages.
* Ask.com
Ask Jeeves and Teoma have morphed into Ask.com. Unlike Google rankings, which depend on the number of page links, Ask.com's ExpertRank formula derives rankings from something called "subject-specific popularity."
* Bananaslug.com
Your search + random word = great results!
With normal Google searching, there are many web pages that you may never have a chance to see. So BananaSlug throws in a random word from a category of your choice. This results in pages you probably overlooked. They all have your search term in them, but the added twist gives you something new every time!
How it works
1. Enter your search term in the window
2. Select a category for your random word
3. That's it!
* Redzee
RedZee is short for Red Zebra, the site's goofy looking mascot that keeps hopping up and down until you do a search.
* Mamma.com
Birthed in 1996, Mamma is a meta engine capable of searching multiple search engines, directories, and deep-content sites with a single click. Mamma uses something called the Rsort method to minimize duplication and rank results. Use the PowerSearch feature to select which directories and indexes to search.
* dmoz: The Open Directory Project
dmoz adds a human touch and comes up with one of the most relevant search directories around. The whole thing is powered by a global community of volunteer editors (not automated spiders and bots) who continually review and catalog Web sites from around the globe. dmoz remains the largest free Web directory around.
