My mission is to give all of my students an active voice in the classroom, to encourage them to question, and to provide them with the skills necessary to discover answers by creating an environment which is safe, caring, and supportive of all students so that they can be successful in school and beyond.

Students if you are absent, it is your responsibility to find out any assignments that you have missed.  You will have the number of days you were absent to make-up the assignments.  If the assignments are not completed in that time frame you will receive no credit.

This course fulfills a graduation requirement for English, and requires students to critically think about the meaningful connection between literature and their world.  Emphasis is placed on an understanding of classical works and their authors, continued development of vocabulary, writing, and oral romeo_20110912215103552615-600x400.jpgcommunication skills, appreciation of multi-cultural literature, and the completion of formal writing assignments. 

  

 
Throughout this semester we will read a variety of different texts including: 
The House on Mango Street by Sandra Cisneros
Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck
Romeo and Juliet  by William Shakespeare
To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee
Various short stories and poems

The English Language Development (ELD) course is a language acquisition program designed to enhance every student’s skills in acquiring English as a second language.  Placement in ELD is determined by the student’s English proficiency scores.  This course provides students with the following skills: listening and speaking, reading comprehension, reading fluency, vocabulary and grammar development, and writing. This course will also serve to increase every student’s team collaboration abilities through interactive teamwork activities.  eld.jpg
This course aims to develop internationally minded people who, recognizing their common humanity and shared guardianship of the planet, help to create a better and more peaceful world.  Students are encouraged to strive to be IB learners who are Inquirers, Knowledgeable, Thinkers, Communicators, Principled, Open-Minded, Caring, Risk-takers, Balanced, and Reflective.
